Khun Yai Ajahn’s Teaching: Self-Reflection
Before sleeping, reflect deeply on the Dhamma—then go to rest.
Begin by observing all your own actions—
from morning until night: awakening, eating, working,
meditating, upholding precepts, and practicing generosity.
This mindful self-examination is the first step on the path to inner refinement and spiritual progress.
meditating, upholding precepts, and practicing generosity.
This mindful self-examination is the first step on the path to inner refinement and spiritual progress.
Reflect on how much merit we have made,
what kinds of karma we have accumulated,
and then set a clear and wholesome intention.
This contemplation helps purify the mind and align it with the Dhamma, preparing the heart for progress on the path.
Try to abandon all resentments and karmic debts.
Do not let them follow you,
even for a single night.
This teaching reminds us to let go of ill will and unresolved karma before resting, so the mind remains light, pure, and ready for inner peace.
Reflect continuously—let go of vengeance, karma, and all forms of unwholesomeness.
Abandon faults in Dhamma practice.
Examine yourself, correct and improve.
Let go of all evil, and resolve to cultivate only goodness each and every day.
For this life is our final one—we must take only pure merit with us.
This guidance encourages daily reflection and purification of conduct, aiming for perfection in this very life through the power of goodness and merit alone.
